vernacular music
Music is incorporated into every part of our lives. In my everyday life, i don't know that i go through a day without hearing some type of music. Every time i get in the car i have some type of music playing in the background. Going to stores, there is usually music playing in the background whether i notice it or not. I really enjoy listening to my music, so i usually don't go a day without listening to music. Someone who never listens to music on thier free time and who really does not have a passion for music, really can't aviod hearing music. As for me, music is more than just something to kill the silence. I really enjoy listening to the lyrics of the song and being able to feel the way the artist is trying to express. I love to hear how the melody can produce the same feeling and meaning that the lyrics do. And for me, music helps me relax, get out frustration, let out emotion or even just to feel happy. I really do believe a song or album can change my mood. Music is a way for me to connect and let out emotion. It cool to think that by listening to an artist's song, i have gotten a picture of how the artist was feeling at a moment in their life. Music plays a huge part in my life, and it would be hard for me to imagine life without it.

I think I use music and feel about it the same way you do. I'm a lyrics fanatic myself. If a song has good lyrics and the music doesn't totally suck, I usually like it. I also like to think about how the artist might have been feeling or what his/her life was like when they wrote a song. It's a nice break from the reality of my own life and allows me to feel a deeper connection with the artist.
ReplyDeleteI feel the same way. Music is a neccessity. I personally listen more to the instraments, but I'm a sucker for vocal harmonies as well. It is much more than just a filler, music for me takes center stage when I put it on. I have a lot of trouble listening to music while doing other things just because I want to focus on the music so much. While we may focus on different parts of the music, it seems as though music is a huge part of both of our lives.
ReplyDeleteMusic definitely impacts your mood, and it somehow transfers the feelings of the artist onto you. I agree with Dylan about focusing on instruments and harmonies. When I hear a particularly emotional and intense guitar solo it can take me to another level. However the same can also be said about emotionally moving lyrics. Music is a very powerful form of communication.
